It’s quiet at camp with just eight girls.  All of us miss the boys company and we wonder if they felt the same way about us when we were on survival.

Today we had a horse riding session and we got to go on a trail ride.  Some of us had to swap horses so there were two girls for one horse.  We got out the saddles and reins and saddled up our horses.  While one group was horse riding the other group was collecting sticks or chopping wood.  After our trail rides were over we had afternoon tea and jobs.

We are looking forward to going abseiling and rock climbing tomorrow.

Wednesday 10 August 2011

On Monday the girls left for survival.  We were driven to our campsite and told to make 2 tents and a kitchen out of tarps, ropes and sticks.  Our sleeping tent was really big so the 8 of us all slept side by side in it. The tent for our bags was a tepee but it was very difficult to make.  The kitchen looked odd but it did the job well. Our food and eskies were put in a tarp and hung up on a tree so they were off the ground. Monday was mail day so we made a mailbox out of bark, sticks and rope so that we could receive mail the following day.  After our camp was set up we cooked dinner which was bangers and mash, and then we sat around the fire.  Many animals came to visit once it got dark including a possum that kept jumping on our kitchen bench but a few people did a good job of getting rid of it.  There was also another animal that took us a while to work out what it was.  Hannah called it a red light animal (because of it’s eyes) while others thought it was a hopping possum.  In the end we figured out that it was actually a Pademelon.  Although we all agreed to stay up late most of us were in bed by 9:30pm.

When Tuesday came, everyone was awake around 9am but Caitlin slept until 11! Everybody was looking forward to a relaxing day.  Around midday, Miss Baker came for a visit with supplies and mail. We were all excited for the mail because it was the first time we got to use our new mailbox.  Everyone had damper for lunch except Jamie who had a roast potato.  After lunch, everyone decided to have quiet time.  Some wrote letters, some chilled and talked, while Caitlin and Hannah decided to make a hammock and nibble on oranges.  During the day two army helicopters circled the area right above us as part of their practice routine.  They were really loud and made our day more exciting.  As the afternoon came quickly so did the darkness so we decided to have dinner a little early.  While everyone was getting ready for cooking dinner and starting the fire, Hannah and Caitlin decided to roll down a hill at very high speeds!  When dinner came everyone was hungry after a relaxing day.  We all devoured the beef mince and vegetables.  Some of us washed it down with a cup of Milo, which we earned by making a broom.  We all went to bed earlier than the night before, yet some of us stayed up talking for a while.

On Wednesday we woke up, had breakfast quickly and packed up because we had to leave before 10am at the latest. We came back to camp, which everyone was over the moon about, and had a proper lunch.  The boys left for their survival as we were unpacking from ours.  We are (rather surprisingly) missing them a little already!  It just isn’t the same without them.  While they were gone the girls went on a drive to the swinging bridge and then went for a walk through a national park reserve.  We saw many interesting things such as GIANT trees and beautiful wildlife.  It was really nice and we all enjoyed ourselves.  We came back to camp, did some journaling, had afternoon tea and did our afternoon jobs.  We were all looking forward to a nice, normal dinner after all the food we ate on survival.
